MOK – Best trip everr!

by Katherine on June 29, 2010

All right… So starting last Tuesday ’til last Friday, I was away on a school trip to Montreal Ottawa Kingston (MOK). My trip overall was amazing! I got to see a lot of coolll stuff!

Day 1: Toronto to Montreal

Mainly just travelling. We travelled in a coach with vid players, so we watched movies. We arrived in Montreal in the afternoon. We visited the BioDome, which was a place where there were 4 different biomes. There were many animals living there – crocodiles, monkeys, birds, penguins etc. Then, we visited Old Montreal, including the famous Notre Dame Basilica (with an organ so huge that occupies over 8000 pipes!).

Day Two: Montreal & went to Ottawa

We went to the Museum of Archaeology, where we saw the only sewage in Montreal a long time ago. We saw the St.Joseph’s Oratory on Mount Royal. We also visited the Planetarium with a presentation called Saturn, Beyond the Rings.  (where I kinda… fell asleep during because of my lack of sleep – we had to wake up at 6 am!).

We then went to eat at a French Canadian Dinner. After the meals, we had live music and we all danced to it (i.e. chicken dance, macorana etc, those dances we all know) and we were also taught a traditional local dance.

We finally arrived in Ottawa at 9, and we stayed at the University of Ottawa Residences. Unfortunately it rained that day, so we were unable to take the lantern walking tour conducted by ghosts! :(

Day Three: Ottawa

We visited the National Art Gallery of Canada, Sussex Drive and Embassay Row. We also saw the big original statue of something that I have do not know the name (it’s the statue on the back of your $20 bill) in Canadian Museum of Civilization. In the War Museum, I saw the uniform of Sir Isaac Brock and Hitler’s car.  IN the evening, we went to Parliament Hill.

Day Four: Last Day! Ottawa-Kingston-Home

We saw an IMAX presentation about Sharks. It was cool because it was in 3D and we learned the many facts about sharks and its surrounding habitats. We then had a guided tour of Old Fort Henry in Kingston.

On the bus, we had Bus Idol which was a lot of fun because it was in the exact format of American Idol.

Sadly, the trip has ended. :( I wish it could last much longer, but I know that the pictures that I took and the memories of the trip will last forever. What is your most memorable trip?

Hey everyone! Exams still going on so I gotta make another quickie quickie…

While studying and all one thing popped up in my mind (even though I’m supposed to be concentrating on studies but lets just continue).

Have you noticed the success rate of normal stars vs. stars on from youtube?

For example this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxDlC7YV5is&feature=related

Funny thing is that his video has more hits than Lady Gaga’s version paparazzi. According to news, a record company offered a deal for him as well. I’m guessing because: a) he’s good at singing but mostly because b) the marketing necessary to introduce a new singer is already done. Makes you think doesn’t it.

Oh, and don’t forget Justin Bieber, he started off on youtube and now is chilling with P Diddy in Island Def Jam records.

Other artists, on the other hand, who don’t use youtube to stack up their popularity, tend to go down a much different path.

Years of hard work. Hours on top of hours working everyday. And especially for those who start off in the more suburban areas (ghettos), it gets pretty tough stacking up your ranks.

Is youtube becoming one of the main sources of talent searching and marketing now for big shot companies? Or is just a coincidence? Hmm…

Extra:

Do you know any talents on youtube waiting to be unveiled? There are several in toronto actually. When you get time try to find talent around your neighborhood. Put their vids up on youtube. Who knows, maybe they’ll be a youtube sensation?

Exam Prep Time: Part 2

by Dilani on June 21, 2010

Hey Everyone!

I know a few weeks ago I wrote a few exam tips, but now that we’re actually in the middle of exam time, I figured I’d share a few last minute tips that help me.

1) Avoid distractions.

2) Take breaks from your studying.

3) Plan to do something fun after exams to motivate yourself.

4) Make flashcards.

5) Calm your nerves.

6) Get all your things (pencils, calculator, clothes, etc.) ready the night before.

7) Snack healthy and avoid junk food.

8 ) Keep a positive attitude and DON’T picture yourself in worst case scenarios.

9) Get a good night’s sleep.

10) Be confident.

You’ve worked hard throughout the year, you’ve spent countless hours studying and you’re almost done. Just think of your exams as one big test…Afterall, you’ve done those all year and you don’t get as scared about those.

Good luck everyone and happy studying! :)
